Babagail-Border Tourism

Babagail

Since the ceasefire agreement in 2021, India has begun to promote border tourism along the LoC and other sensitive parts of Kashmir. Babagail, a village situated inside the Limber Wildlife Sanctuary, is one of the destinations chosen for tourism promotion, with hopes of improving infrastructure and bringing development to the local residents. To visit the area, permission must be obtained from the tehsil office in Boniyar, which is approved for a specific time limit by the local police station. This permit must be presented at the army post in Babagail before entering the village.

Babagail is a beautiful village located about 20 kilometers from the nearby town of Boniyar. It has fewer than 100 houses, an army camp, a medical clinic, a few stores, and several privately run Upper Primary schools. Infrastructure and road facilities are still incomplete. Though several families initially took the initiative to offer homestays, most have withdrawn. However, Ghulam Muhammed, a former policeman who left his job to stay at home after his brother's passing, is now hosting guests at his residence.
