We are all familiar with Kadukumanna, the hamlet where Madhu and his family were staying. (They were staying in Chidankki hamlet when he was murdered.)
Recently, we heard in the news that a pregnant woman was carried on the shoulders of people to a hospital from this hamlet, which is located inside the forest and near the Silent Valley National Park. To reach the hamlet, one must travel through the forest route up to the river Bhavani, and then climb less than a kilometre.
While talking to a few people gathered at Madhu's grandmother's house, a woman described the incident after seeking permission from her husband. Aayavana is a neighboring hamlet where the nurse on duty stays. The pregnant woman was from Kadukumanna and married to Aayavana. She began experiencing labor pains at midnight while in Kadukumanna. The villagers appreciated that the nurse reached there within half an hour, and the doctor from the Kottathara tribal hospital also arrived at the river in an ambulance.
The nurse, who was recently appointed to the hamlets, was from Kozhikodu, and the sight of people carrying a woman on a cloth chariot was new to her. She took a video of it on her phone, which later reached the media. "There was a quick planning and minimal survey for a road just after the incident, but it's not going to be fulfilled anytime soon," her husband concluded.
